This Yayoiken was about a ten minute walk from my hotel and I’m somewhat of an early bird when it comes to Tokyo. There aren’t a lot of places they’re open at 7am for breakfast so this place was a must go. I’ve been to other Yayoiken’s in Tokyo, Osaka, and Sapporo and they were always great. A nice solid meal for around 1,000 yen is always a good thing. I went with their chicken cutlet meal. It arrived in a few minutes and it tasted great. The cutlets were freshly friend and tasted delicious with the tonkatsu and tartar sauces. When you add a nice big bowl of steamed rice (which you get free refills) it doesn’t get better than that. This reminded me why teishoku diners like Yayoiken will always be on my list.

The Miso Katsu was good with the sauce being salty but not too salty to overwhelm the tongue. The sauce was the main star. The katsu was soft and tender also which made it fun to eat. The crispiness of the katsu drenched in the sauce though could be improved as when it came out, the breading was already soft. The miso soup was also good. Note: They have free rice refills if ever.

After a long day of walking around, I was really tired but really wanted to get dinner. This store is near the Toyoko Inn that I stayed at, so I decided to give it a try. I went with my friend around 9 PM on a Thursday and it was still busy. Once we went inside, we ordered from the screen on the side. As someone that doesn’t know how to read Japanese, this was very helpful with visuals and English translation. It accepts credit cards like American Express. A ticket was printed out afterwards, which was shared with the staff for seating. The food came out pretty quickly. The beef had a lot of flavor and the miso soup definitely hit the spot. It was a much needed meal after a long day. The water station is located in the back. Couldn’t recommend this spot more! This was one of my favorite spots that I stumbled upon in Japan.
